Christmas Plans?

Mon, 25/11/2013 - 21:14 - Charmian Boyd

Are you going to invite your older relatives over during the holidays?  This is a great opportunity to make sure they are coping at home.  It is easy to maintain appearances while one is lapping up the Christmas dinner - but what really happens when they get home and are by themselves?  There are many older people who find it increasingly difficult to live in their own home.

So seize the moment to escort them home and spend a bit of time talking and observing.   Are they lonely and isolated, unable to maintain the fabric and condition of their home or perhaps finding mobility a real issue?  There are all sorts of support services that can be of help (try Independent Age, Silver Line, Age UK and local older peoples support services).  There are also many alternatives to people remaining in an unsuitable home.  Most importantly reassure them - they don’t have to get moved into residential care.  There are some great places to live which give independence but also the comfort and company of other people around.  If you need some ideas - please call us for a free consultation.
